Dear Friends, It is with great pleasure that I bring you images from my recent two week visit to the world-famous home of David Austin English Roses in Albrighton, England. For those of us who love roses, it is a dream destination, one that I know many of you hope to visit one day. And I hope that for you, too! Until then, walk with me now and experience a quintessential English summer day in this sumptuous and romantic garden, blooming to bursting with what I consider to be the most beautiful roses in the world.

If you have followed along here for even a brief time, you’ll know how much I adore David Austin English Roses and that I grow a number of them in my own garden. I know many of you do, too. Working among them here, in their home environment, was really the ultimate rose experience! I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone at David Austin Roses, especially the Technical Director, Mr. Michael Marriott, who was a warmly welcoming host and provided me with special access to the garden and facilities. Without this generous assistance, the extensive series of photographs for my upcoming project would not have been possible. You’ll be seeing more from this soon!

I hope you’re all having a wonderful July. I’m traveling again tomorrow but you can always follow on Instagram as I try to post there at least once a day @georgiannalane

  • Georgianna, it’s impossible to explain but… feeling overwhelmed with life, this morning, and…. this just totally changed my mind about that and gave me hope. It sounds so superficial to say it… can a picture really do that? ;) But…. these roses just lift me up and encourage me! :)

AND, this gives me hope on a whole ‘nother level as I’ve been reclaiming my garden from a year an half of not being able to do anything. Reminds me of what it’s all about! ;)

These are my favorite roses as well… no wonder as I love Peonies and the high petal count and strong fragrance make them so similar. Thank you for the beautiful photos!

Oh my goodness, G, words can hardly capture my delight in these pictures. I want to go there, of course! Is there an ideal time of year to visit? Guess I can find out those details from their website. I’ve never really wanted to mess with planting roses but these would be the ones to try for sure.

Still hoping to catch something on your website about a photography class but it looks like you can hardly catch a breath with all your travel and location work. So happy for you! I can still dream, right?!

Thanks so much for posting this photo essay – I have a goal to get to England visit several famous gardens and David Austin Roses. Thanks for bringing us along on your amazing assignments. Was there a specific rose that caught your eye while you were there that just really exceeded your expectations? It’s one thing to look at rose in a catalog, another thing to experience in person. I’m curious if you found a new favorite? Also wondering if there is any chance of a part II of your David Austin visit maybe next month? Thanks and have a great week!

    August 9, 2015
  • Oh I do love David Austin roses and have several in my own garden. How wonderful for you to have the opportunity to visit there.

  • How sumptuous and wonderfully beautiful Georgianna !
Your photos are breathtaking. Even though we’re now in Fall season, I’ll dream of next Summer roses and I hope I can find some David Austin roses hardy enough for the zone I’m in. I’ve been wanting some English roses for a long time and it would make me really happy to grow a few.
Wishing you a beautiful week dear Georgianna :) xxx

Wow! Your photos are stunning!! My husband and I are planning a 5-day trip to London in May to attend the Chelsea Flower Show – we will be there for the first two days. While there, I’d love to visit the David Austin gardens shown in your beautiful pictures. Can you please share with me what train you took to get there? This entire trip is a birthday gift from my husband and I hope to enjoy every minute of it. :-)

Thank you in advance for any information you can provide.
