The Dawn Chorus

Dawn from our bedroom window

The days begin early at Hillhaven in May. By 4:15 we are up, making coffee and listening to the spectacular dawn chorus of the thousands of birds in our area. Last year, I began recording the sounds of the chorus, for no reason except that they make me happy, and have become a bit obsessive about it, amassing dozens of hours of recorded birdsong.

I edited down a few minutes of this morning’s recording to post here. Next will be how to figure out how as blogger doesn’t seem to want to do it…

We are having another incredible day of brilliant blue skies, sunshine and all around fabulous weather. It’s been like this for two weeks and is forecast to continue for at least another 10 days. Makes you want to hop and skip around.

I hope you have a day filled with birdsong and happiness.

A Perfect Day in May

The kind of day you want to scoop up in your hands and hold forever.

Variations on a theme: Fragrant white blossoms from our garden – Lilac and Lily of the Valley with White Bluebell

Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majalis) overflows one of the garden beds

Purple Trillium (Trillium erectum) in the rock garden

7 wonderful things to be grateful for today:

1. Getting up at 4:15 to hear the first birds singing

2. Dream-perfect weather all day – warm, not hot, breezy and fresh, the scent of lilac and lily of the valley and jasmine

3. Eating outside

4. Fresh raspberries

5. Everything blooming and healthy and sparkly

6. Sitting back in recliners, watching a cloudless sky

7. Sharing it all with loved ones
