The Year Ahead

David Austin Roses by Georgianna Lane

Hello, my friends! Thank you for all your lovely New Year’s wishes and I send mine manyfold back to each of you.

As we plan and dream to shape our destinies for the coming days, with anticipated joy for all the happy times, we will inevitably find at some points in the year that we are not in fact the ultimate arbiters of our fate, that other influences redirect or even completely detour our carefully laid out course. But how we adjust and carry on is what truly matters.

I’ve chosen the images for this post with a good measure of thought. From a shoot I did last summer (with Erin of Floret who created the amazing arrangements), I admit I’ve been “saving” them as they are quite special to me. They embody new directions and new levels of creative endeavor. I’ve saved them, but now release them – my gift out to the universe, a little offering saying “this is what I’m up to” and what I’m dreaming of. Breathtaking beauty to celebrate the coming triumphs, gentle grace to soothe and calm the stormy days that will no doubt come.

And so, this first post of the new year is filled with hopes and wishes and optimism. In twelve months time, I’ll see if these images will join in a complete circle of accomplishments, the ends tying rather neatly together the threads of flowers, travel and photographs.

And you? What are your dearest dreams for your new year? Whatever they are, you have my wishes right along side yours that they all come true.

much love,

G

  • A very happy New Year to you too!!!
If this is what you’ve been up to then you are definitely on the right track! Just lovely, as usual! Special, as you say!
As I work through each day with it’s hopes and dreams I try to never forget that God allows every interruption in our plans for a reason… most end up being a gift heaven-sent. One thing I’ve learned through the years is to try and not to fight those interruptions. (Now if only I can remember that as repairmen are coming to work on the elevator today!)
    Blessings for a wonderful 2013!

  • Absolutely stunning pictures as usual… I can’t believe it’s 2013 already, where did the time go? I haven’t made any “resolutions”, but have concentrated more on a few things I’d like to do and one or two things I’d like to change about my own behaviour…

I hope your wishes and hopes will come true this year and I look forward to seeing many more of your beautiful and inspiring pictures.

    Love from London xo

  • Hi Georgianna! What gorgeous gorgeous roses! And those clematis! To die for! Such beautiful pictures. You have a magical touch for it, that’s for sure! I hope all your dreams will come true for this year. I do have a dream for the upcoming year and that is that I will be able to finally walk again with the right therapeutic stockings! I so much long for a long walk. Haven’t been able to do so for 4 years now due to wrong stockings. Anyway, that’s my modest dream! Thank you for sharing these beauties and happy new year!

  • Oh dear! Now I want to ransack a florist’s shop and start shooting… :). The sheer beauty and abundance, the juxtaposition of delicate and rustic, the shadows, the cropping, the sense of wild abandon… LOVE these images, dear g! Wishing you much joy and inspiration in the new year! You are certainly a source of both for me! xoxo

  • Your beautiful photos are a gift this dreary rainy morning, as I face some issues with my mother that I’m a bit stressful about. Just reinforces the thought that one should take time to “smell the roses” and grab a bit of peace, tranquility and beauty along the way. I love what’s going on in your work and happy that you’ve shared them all with us.

    January 9, 2013
  • Astonishing beauty, dear Georgianna! Really breathtaking! Wishing you lots of creativity and thousands of images like these ones in the year to come! Love,

  • Oh how beautiful your work is! This year I too have many dreams to fulfill and looking at it with hope. The thing is I cannot do anything alone or take credit for where 2012 got me. I believe that God will lead me in the right directions. My goal is also to meet you this year or the next :0).

    January 13, 2013
  • This is a lovely selection, georgianna, to start the new year. My faves are those beautiful purple flowers, and the white bouquet in the vase, but, then, how can I choose, I really like them all! My dream for this year is to produce some macro images that will translate, eventually, into a black+white calendar for 2014. I have a very short list of subjects, but have quietly already decided. Good luck with your projects this year, and I envy you all the travel…. best to you,

    January 13, 2013

My goals for this year…don’t laugh; work on my photogrpahy skills hee hee! ..Being healthy, enjoy the little things in life and creating a bit in my spare time. Your blog is wonderful source of inspiration and encouragement to learn more about photography; the photos are gorgeous…as always!

  • Oh my, these photos are breathtaking, G!! This is not my first visit to this post but the first moment I’ve taken to comment. I also wanted to tell you that I spent the afternoon playing catchup on some projects on my laptop. On my TV, your exquisite Flickr photos are playing while a chosen playlist of music plays (thanks to Apple TV). Love my Apple technology and your lovely artistic working together.

I finally got around to doing another blogpost recently. My incentive … to share a couple of pictures I took with my new Macro lens! Sure wish I could pop over for a crash course.

Thanks always for the inspiration, friend. Hope you and your family are doing well.

    January 17, 2013
  • What a beautiful post, Georgianna! And the images are amazing, of course. I am so excited for the year ahead, but always a little worried in the back of my mind (with an elderly parent). Hoping for the best for my family and friends, and so excited to grow my business now that I’m working at it full time.

I hope your year if full of beauty and success, health and happiness!

Seeing your images is always truly inspiring and delightful and visiting your blog is, for me, like a moment suspended in time, a moment I always greatly enjoy !
I’ll be here to see what you’ve been up to and what you’re dreaming of, and I hope this new year bring you success in everything you do !

  • So incredibly beautiful & breathtaking G… I can see why they would be so special to you. I hope Erin brings you many more lovely bouquets this year!!! And may all your dreams and wishes come true dear friend.

Spending more time in the Blue Ridge Mountains would make me very happy this year. I am always filled with such inner peace, calm and memories of such beauty after visits there. Creating more art such as painting and pottery is a dream and wish too!
