When I conceived Paris in Bloom, it was always envisioned as the first in a series. As a teenager, I spent a long summer in London, near Richmond Park, one of the most majestic parks in all of London. The English tradition of creating beautiful green spaces and gardens captivated me right then and has always been a source of inspiration for my work. Throughout my many, many visits to London, during my time as a graduate student there and as a London resident several times, I’ve always sought out the quiet spaces, the romantic hidden gardens and the enchanted parks that have such historical and literary meaning.
Architecturally, London is rich in gorgeous details and magnificent structures, many of which are adorned with floral motifs. I’ve been photographing these for many years. I also adore the quirky and whimsical side of London – the colorful houses, playful fashion and cheeky design which are such fun features.
With London in Bloom, I aim to gather these wonderful elements into a stunning photographic bouquet of images that celebrate the city’s unique floral beauty.
