Actually, this is called a “Bride’s Basket”.
It was a wedding present to my grandfather and his first wife, Marie, and dates from the 1880’s.
The workmanship and detail are stunning. The sterling is so delicate and soft, you could bend it with your hand.
I’ve never collected “things” for the sake of it. But a piece like this is a celebration of human skill and creativity, graceful living and a testament to patience and care and a desire to share beauty with the world.
I filled it with glitter eggs and organdy roses and rhododendron blossoms from the garden.
My very proper Mom was adamant that she polish it before I borrow it for these photos, but I told her the “tarnished” look was in style, which surprised and amused her.

I leave you with a bit of birdsong from this morning and wish you a day of grace and joy.

gorgeous..what an heirloom. your photography, as always, is stunning. i swear, someday i am going to get to the pacific northwest to see that beautiful part of the country, washington, oregon and vancouver if i am able.
i'm afraid though, that i would never want to come back to michigan. :D

Thank you, Cindy! It would be lovely for you to visit this part of the country. And I have spent time in Michigan so know there is a lot of natural beauty there, too. :)

Indeed, they never do go out of style! And again you've managed to capture their beauty perfectly Georgianna. I've also spent a little while catching up on some of your recent posts and feel like I've enjoyed a sunny walk in both a garden and a woodland. We have not seen a glimmer of sunshine here for days. In fact, it feels quite wintery again. I can't believe how different it is considering we're in the same hemisphere. Anyway, thanks to the internet and the wonder of your beautiful photographs, I get to enjoy your sunshine as well, which is amazing – thank you! :) k xx
