After many, many years of wandering the streets of London, I’ve gotten quite familiar with numerous charming doors, many of them brightly painted in various colors, including pink! This one, above, on Connaught Square, is framed by elegant topiaries. And below, the famous “LOVE” door is a cheery beacon on Oakley Street that also appears in my book, London in Bloom. (Both of these are available as fine art prints here.) It’s a great deal of fun to try to imagine what’s behind them, isn’t it?
What fun to live at Number 24 1/2! Or Number 23 with, its hot pink door.
Or one of these these two. How to decide?
Another feature I love are doors with black and white checkered entries and steps, like these beauties.
And even better, this double entry in Chelsea that has a pink door AND checkered steps.
Each of these colorful doors has a distinctive character, enhanced by the brilliant use of bold color.
But best of all are doors that are framed in flowers, whether real or faux. I particularly love this spring-themed display at Lane’s of London (print available here)
And these magnificent entrances are classic London, with pediments, columns and decorative transom windows.
Hunting for gorgeous London doors is an addictive but visually delightful pastime! Which of all these is your favorite?
love,
G
