Bonjour, mes amis! As a farewell to summer and a gentle transition to autumn, I wanted to create another seasonal arrangement on my desk. But, to be honest, I couldn’t get excited about doing a display in oranges and reds. I decided that the rich and faded tones of antiqued hydrangeas, with a few chrysanthemums, would be perfect in our Parisian apartment and a color palette close to my heart. The flower shops in Paris right now are absolutely overflowing with massive hydrangea blooms from the wholesale market. Each thick stem holds a single bloom that is over nine inches in width!

These so bring back memories of our former garden in the US, where we had dozens of hydrangeas in a rainbow range of colors. One of my great pleasures was cutting and drying them at summer’s end each year. So, this arrangement was especially joyful to create.

The rich, jeweled shades are spectacular! To echo the shapes of the blooms, I used round mercury glass and rose crystal vases, along with round crystal paperweights, in keeping with the globe motif.

Here they are on one of the balconies, displayed on a gorgeous linen hydrangea tablecloth I purchased from By Hope Home.

I can’t get over the magnificence of these intense colors!

This exquisite embossed silver notebook is from Paperblanks.

The small silver notebook is also from Paperblanks.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this hydrangea interlude. I will, of course, be sharing much more of the transition to autumn in Paris. But this is how I’ve introduced the season in my own way into our apartment here in Paris.
Sending love, as always.
À bientôt!

Hi Cheryl!
Thanks so much. I adore hydrangeas, too. They are so rewarding right up into the beginning of winter. And I’m so glad you have the Hydrangea book. That was a special one to work on.
All my best,

Thank you for these beautiful bouquets! I, too, favor these colors, and I love your hydrangea book, as well. I keep it out in my bedroom as part of my decor. I’m actually thinking of bringing your other books out of the bookcase to add them to the decor in that room. Thank you, as always, for sharing your beautiful work with us.
Hello, Kathleen! My goodness, I’m honored that you have the hydrangeas book in your bedroom decor. That really means a great deal to me. The cover flowers are from my former garden and I do miss growing them. And I really love that the other books might also add to your decor. I’m at the final steps for my next book, which will be out in the spring. I hope you love that cover, too, and I’ll be sharing it very soon! Again, I so appreciate your kind words and your support of my work. All my best to you, G xo
Your eye is exquisite. I just love your photography. Merci!
Thank you so much, Rebecca! I hope all is well with you there. xx
I love hydrangeas so this post is one of my favorites! I sent a link to your post today to my yoga mentor and dear friend who is turning 60. She had expressed wanting experiences for her birthday instead of a big party. I sent her your beautiful post and the link to a song with a great lyric about friendship.
Of course, I always enjoy your references to your garden in the US since I was blessed to spend an afternoon with you there once upon a time. What a fine memory that is!
Thank you for continuing to make my world more beautiful through your amazing eye, friend.
Hello, dear Lori! I’m so glad you enjoyed this hydrangea post and thank you so much for sharing it with your friend for her birthday. That’s so thoughtful of you.
And yes, that was a very special afternoon when you and Debi to the time to visit our garden! A very fine memory, indeed and I’m very happy that we share it.
Wishing you joy for the coming season!
