I have become bird crazy.
Winters, it quiets down, smoldering beneath the surface until the avian orchestra tunes up and lets loose in late March or early April.
But this week, it has all chirped up to the surface again and begun manifesting itself in ways that cause my dear husband to sigh patiently, and possibly look indulgently at me over his spectacles, if indeed he wore any.
I heard the first robin’s song on Saturday.
Not early April, as expected. Not late March, as I did last year. Saturday. The 6th of February!
Ha! I was too shocked and dazed to grab my recorder, but Sunday, oh yes, I was ready! Amidst a tremendous amount of bird activity and chatter at dawn (seems early but it was after 7:00), I managed to record the little sweetie.

So, feeling rather blithe and merry from this, I felt justified in indulging myself in a little pre-Valentine’s Day prezzie, these too cute, enameled and jeweled bird magnets, which I happened to find this afternoon while shopping at our local nursery for more roses and hellebores (don’t ask).

oh me too, I ADORE my birds, especially my little Robin that chirps merrily in my garden. Just the other day we had heaps of snow and I wrapped up warm, sat out on my garden bench and my little friend came and sat on my Christmas tree outside posing for my camera! I was SO excited. If you go back a post on my Blog you can see my photos :) I loved your sound recording, confused my kitty cat! Nothing better than bird song! Hellebores and roses, can't wait to see! Have a lovely weekend, Catherine x

g how have you had so many posts that i haven't looked at yet? time is passing by more quickly than i thought!
my dad shares your love of birds, he's obsessed with them to the point of getting a little nesting box equipped with a camera so he can watch the birds in our garden build a nest in it from an indoors television! when we were young he took myself and my older sister to a nearby forest for the dawn chorus on several occasions, they are very precious memories for me and i love getting out at that time of day into the countryside and the morning light. there's nothing as magical as hearing the birds awaken from the first little twitters and build to a full blown chorus.
i think he got this love from my granmother who was also a bird lover, she had a bird table right outside her kitchen window so she could sit and watch them any time she liked. i know if she were alive today if she would adore these little jewelled birds of yours, they are so very beautiful :)
