Lily of the Valley (Convallaria majelis) and Columbine (Aquilegia) from Latin columba “dove”, also known as “Granny’s Bonnet”.
Pacific Bleeding Heart (Dicentra formosa), a wild woodland plant, and Aquilegia “Swan Blue and White” a recent hybrid.
Lily of the Valley and Forget-me-not (Myosotis)
The woodland flowers are so sweet and delicate, shy and shade-loving but full of abundant, old-fashioned charm, like a young country lady. But each is surprisingly tough and fairly long-lasting, especially if you keep them in the fridge at night, like I do.
We have so many Lily of the Valley on our property, each year I cut handfuls, vasefuls and pitcherfuls! Hence, so many photos. I hate to waste them!

***LOVE!***
Columbines are one of my favourites… is that a double-petal variety? I have never seen those before. Thanks for sharing!
Carolyn says
Hi Georgianna,
I can never pick a favorite from your photos-they are all so beautiful! The teacup is so pretty with the lily of the valley in it.
I love the fragrance of the lily of the valley-I have some on my kitchen windowsill now.
Isn't it great to have so much beauty surrounding us now! I am going to check out that blog now- what a lovely giveaway. Who knows I could be on a winning streak!
Have a great weekend,
Carolyn

I shall go visit your friend after I say this: Please, someday, tell me how you create such magic with your photos. Secrets?

the "dove" flowers are new to me. Very beautiful and interesting.
Georgianna says
Hi!
Yes, Caitlin, that's a double hybrid, called "Winky". They are quite tiny and very different looking than the usual columbine.
Carolyn, I saw your lily of the valley photos – totally charming in the white pitcher! I bet your kitchen smells wonderful. This IS a fantastic time of year, such an abundance of beauty. Good luck on the giveaway!
Brenda, you are so sweet to say that. I don't really have secrets! Maybe I should do a post or two on how I create my images, but I don't do things "by the book" so I'm always hesitant to give unconventional advice. That said, I take a LOT of photos, more than is reasonable or sane, really. :) I mostly use a macro lens and a shallow depth of field (low aperture number) and come in close to the subject, which causes the backgrounds to go soft. I use a tripod for interiors but not as much in the field. I think about composition constantly, when I'm in the shower, weeding the garden, etc. I always strive to capture the definitive image of a subject, but feel I rarely succeed. So, I keep trying. :)
I appreciate your kind words very much everyone.

so very lovely georgianna…i love your teacup. i found this one the other day surfing around online
http://www.amazon.com/Royal-Doulton-Albert-Platinum-Accent/dp/B00023DX8Q
and fell in love with the color combination. i can just see it in one of your posts with some beautiful lilacs or violets in it. or maybe one of my posts!!! :D
its funny how you mention how you think about composition all of the time. i am constantly looking at EVERYTHING as a potential backdrop for photo sessions and i picture composition as well. nature is my backdrop and i love to find beautiful backgrounds everywhere i look!! i hope you have a great weekend as well.
hugs, cindy

Hello Georgianna
Your blog & photographs are absolutely stunning! I love how you have wrapped the little lily of the valley bundles ♥ Columbine & lily of the valley are in our garden too – I planted lily of the valley in our garden 5 or 6 years ago anticipating my sons graduation from High School knowing I would make his boutonniere and date's corsage. Now they really add to our "memory garden" :-)
Have a wonderful weekend.
Sylvia says
What a beautiful post G!!! I love that we have the same flowers blooming together.
I took some photos of all the "tiny things" in my yard for a post, then forgot about it and did the peonies instead…whoops!
I love the one of the grouping of little vases!!

Dearest sweet g, me again hehe. Thank you so very much on your sweet ideas of sending me some gorgeous lily of the valley! Love love the idea of sending seeds or plants but i am not sure if the weather here is suitable. i am going to do a little research on these gorgeous flowers to see what kinda weather is best for it. We have yet to decide on the actual wedding date but we are also thinking of summer next year. Thank you so much sweet friend! Love to you!

Hey Georgianna. Thank you for your nice comment! You are so lovely. And your flowerpictures are so beautiful again. In Germany the name for "Lily of the Valley" is "Maiglöckchen" … that means little bells in the may. And now I'm going to win one of your prints! Hugs.
Alely L. says
wow, those are amazing! love them all! and oh girl….your pictures are a success!

Georgianna, These photos are absolutely stunning! I really love your use of bokeh and the props you use with the photos like the vases, turquoise glass and the teacups! You have SUCH a talent!! And thank you SOOO much for your sweet words about my blog, *blushing* here. I'm soo happy we paired together to do this giveaway! =) Hope you're having a great weekend dear!

Dear Georgianna, Love the first photo and love all the others. But the first photo is very, very special. I am so jealous. You have so many Lilly-of-the-Valley that you can pick large bunches?
I am cultivating a new area and I had hopes for a big new group of them and then Gene ran over them with his mower. This is not the first time.
andrea400 says
These are absolutely so pretty. I love those little vases too! Have a wonderful weekend!!
Georgianna says
Thank you again, ladies!
Cindy, love that teacup! You should definitely use it in one of your posts. And yes, I have the new Victoria. I love that photo shoot on page 60. What a great idea! I'm also looking for some lace tablecloths but to use in my dining room. I have quite a few vintage linen ones that are family heirlooms but haven't found the lace I want.
Thanks, Deb! How sweet to have planted the Lily of the Valley for your son's graduation and to have that special memory.
Sylvia, your peonies are amazing! I wish I had more of them. We went to a peony farm on Monday – I was a bit stunned at the prices but I guess they last forever…
Jacqueline, the Lily of the Valley like cool, shady climates but I'm sure you could create the right conditions, maybe?
Thanks, Caro! Love knowing the German name for them. Good luck on the giveaway!
Alely, really appreciate you stopping by! Have a great weekend!
Sandy, so well deserved. Your blog is a treat and thank you again for thinking of me.
Gina, I wish I could send you some of ours! I hate to say it but they are almost invasive here and I've had to pull some out, yikes!!
Hope you all are having a sunny weekend! We aren't, and I'm trying not to be bothered by it. I hate missing the light of our late evenings, which I look forward to all year.
