Plants are endlessly fascinating. I’ve collected botanical prints for many years and love the current resurgence in interest in them. I marvel at those long ago artists who feverishly drew exquisite renderings of live specimens before they withered. And so, let’s conjure spring with a little Latin invocation of some of her best offerings!
(Thank you all for your visits and lovely comments on the Valentine’s roses. I’m working on a tutorial which I’m planning to be in video format. Question: do any of you use Lightroom or Photoshop or Elements? )
Wishing you a beauty-filled week!

A beautiful botany lesson G. Many times when I'm giving a gardening presentation I can remember the Latin or the common name but not both. :-) The trials of getting older!

Good morning Georgianna,
Just lovely. Each one so delicate in it's own. When I lived in Virginia and had a garden I would spend hours there. I have Photoshop Elements 9 {don't really know how to use it yet}. My husband has passed down his Nikon D80 to me – I have a lot to learn.
Deb says
beautiful! I love botanical prints & learning the latin names too ♥

Oh these are so beautiful, dear g, and would be lovely framed and hung together on a gallery wall! I am an avid collector of botanical prints and pressed flowers — hoping one day to have a place to hang them all together. :)
As I was scrolling down the post, I was thinking to myself: are all these in bloom at Hillhaven already?! I must admit that I would have sobbed just a little if not for your note at the end of the post. lol
Have a wonderful week!
xoxo

Love Syringa vulgaris. Funny how such a beautiful flower can have "vulgaris" as part of its name! After initially doing a course in photoshop, I am now a converted Lightroom user only.

Wow, these are lovely! I had to giggle when I saw your Lily of the Valley. Nothing really to do with it but I am sitting here watching Sidney Poitier in The Defiant Ones with my hubby right now. His movie, Lilies of the Valley is one of my favorite old movies. But I digress!
Lilacs are one of my favorite spring flowers, I wait all year for their two or so week show and then they are gone too soon.
I have Photoshop CS2 and I also have Elements 7 I believe. I don't use that much at all. I am looking forward to your tutorial!!!
Cindy says
the lilacs are my very favorite. but any purple flower holds a special place in my heart!!!
these are lovely images and you stage them so effortlessly. i love them!!!
i use elements.

Hi G,
your pictures always leave me wanting more!!! I can never get enough when I come here. I have missed some beautiful posts here, and have been catching up and filling my 'prettiness' tank back up. I hope you are surviving this weather. It can't seem to make up it's mind here, but I am keeping myself busy with the Spring cleaning.

Ahh, what a Beauty!! I love Aquilegias and it's a kind of nostalgic flower for me as there was a plenty of them in my childhood place; growing in our and in neighbour gardens, and just all by themselves all around…violet, light pink and white ones..!
I also have a weakness for old botanical hand drawings! Thank you for such a beautiful botany lesson! ;)

A lovely lesson indeed… I'm so very glad I came by to take it all in. Columbine is a favorite, but I love them all so beautifully presented as only you could g!

How exciting! I use Photoshop. :)
And I love the bluebells! My grandma runs a plant nursery and I've been getting more familiar with certain plants. But of course, they don't look as good as those in your pictures! The weather here is too hot for some to bloom really beautifully.
Hope you're doing well, Georgianna! :) Much love from Malaysia. xx

Yes I use Photoshop Elements 7, and am aware of it's limitations compared to Photoshop Elements 9. I'm so happy about your tutorial!

PS…These botanical pics are soooo beautiful. I love all your background textures, but I think my fav it the Pacific Bleeding Heart (flower and background).

So beautiful, Georgianna. What a treat a video tutorial from you would be! I'm a student of Photoshop Elements 8. I can't begin to imagine what the professional versions of PS do as I'm overwhelmed at the Elements level!
Your work is truly magical!
