Dark days, short days, days of bundling up against the shiver of winds insistent on creeping down our necks and curling up our sleeves. Time to tuck the last of the bulbs into the ground, light the fire and welcome the festive season – the season of joy, of sparkling lights, of reflecting on the year almost past and, most of all, the season for expressing the love and gratitude in our hearts for those who have touched us with theirs.
In recent years, I’ve made peace with winter. With its inevitability, its inconveniences and discomforts, its melancholy moods and especially with the reasons we must have winter, and endings, at all. So I’ll embrace the respite and the chance for renewal and rebirth. As we embark along winter’s path this year, having you share the journey makes it memorable, indeed. Thank you for being here.
much love,
G

Ha, just spotted your post before I’m off to bed ;-) You know I always love your photos (winter certainly looks a lot better where you are than here) but this time it’s your writing that’s really “caught my eye”! Such a lovely way to describe winter. I’ve always liked having “real” seasons and I like each season for different reasons. Winter is so nice for walks when wrapped up warm, staying in with hot chocolate, cosy evenings and relative quietness… I like it. xo

oh, i just love these images and the snow! i find a snowy path so peaceful and quietly safe. i used to have some difficulty with the grey of winter, a seasonal disorder kind of thing…probably from the lack of vitamin d from mr. sun…but i think i have grown out of it and now i embrace short grey days and their calm beauty. your photos are beautiful, g.

Beautifully written and photographed, Georgianna! I have personally loved winter ever since being a kid, and still continue to bare my soul to the winds and manage a nice walk in the cold – below -20 tonight once again for us. Winter is my biggest inspiration for its lightness and whiteness, we are lucky with that.

Beautifully captured Winter images – you are right it is best to embrace Winter in all her glory, the bad bits as well as the good – the wonder of it all being that Spring always follows.

I love that photo in the middle.
Making peace with winter, you say. If you live in Iceland you have to but I can’t say I’m doing so well in that department after moving abroad. All I can think about is spring, spring, spring. Luckily, I do love December. It’s one of my favourite months so I’m fine with winter right now.

What beautiful winter images! I’m looking forward to snow and cold. Now that I don’t have to leave the house every morning at the crack of dawn, I won’t mind old man winter. I just got my fireplace inspected and I’m ready for whatever comes my way!

A winter wonderland and awesome photos. It’s snowing like the dickens here, but pretty when you’re toasty warm on the inside looking out.

G ~ your writing is a reflection of your beautiful photography ~ quiet and soft. The type of writing and photography that beckons us to curl up in cozy chair by the fire with a cup of tea and savor stillness.
Christmas love,

I can’t imagine living in the midst of such beauty. We’ve had temperatures in the 80’s here in Houston until just a couple of days ago. Now we’re shivering in the 40’s-50’s. This vision of cold makes me want to run for a hot chocolate!

I know it’s easy to fantasise about your winters through these images given I don’t know what it’s like to live in a snowy winter – but I will say they do inspire me every year when we enter our summer here in the southern hemisphere to see gorgeous images of the white wonderlands! I hope to have a white festive season one year.
