Hello, my friends! I hope this finds you very well.
We are having the most gorgeous summer in Seattle with day after glorious day of sun, blue skies and late-lingering twilight. Our rambling garden might just be at its best ever and we are savoring each fragrant, breeze-filled moment.
Today I bring you pink-tinted, sun-washed scenes from the tiny island of Burano, a short boat trip from historic Venice. Known for exquisite lace making, colorful houses and striped doorway curtains, Burano presents a particular charm that is architecturally quite different from the elegant palazzi of the Grand Canal. Of course, not all the houses are pink (!) but I felt that, grouped together, they offer a bright, light-drenched ode to the season that I hope captures the unique atmosphere of the island and helps extend the giddy and uplifting joy that is summer.
As always, I thank you for visiting and wish you a lovely week ahead.
love,
G

I so enjoyed this series of photos! I’ve been to Venice a couple of times but never to Burano. Oh well, guess that means I’ll just have to go back….
Rosemary says
Absolutely lovely – did you request that the inhabitants put pure white washing on the line, and hang matching stripe doorway curtains especially for you!!!
Sylvia Cook says
Oh I fell in love with Burano! Can you imagine that all those people live in those cute houses every day of their lives?
Love all these gorgeous shots G, but seeing them makes me want to go back so much!
Mademoiselle Poirot says
I don’t care if not all the houses are pink, I simply love the ones you’ve captured. There’s something very simple and restraint about the colour in these photos despite the fact that pink is usually a bit of a “wow” colour. I think I’d put that down to the sunshine – it fits better there than in the cold light of the UK… Love the photos :-) I hope you’re well and having a good start to the week. Love from London xo

Oh, Georgianna, you have no idea how much I’m enjoying these AWE-some photos of Burano! I’ve been there many times when I was a kid, then never again. From your photos I can see it didn’t change, it’s still magical and a delight for the eyes! Thanks for sharing your lovely photos! Happy day xo

A colourful group of homes, and I like all the pink ones. I don’t understand why they put a curtain over the doors though.

Oh, dear Georgianna, what a treat! You know, I adore Italy, and Venice, in particular, is such a special place with unique atmosphere. I was only in Venice, but never visited its nearby islands. Now, this will be my another travel dream! :)
Lovely colours and beautifully captured!
Have a delightful week, dear G!

Sharon says
Oh so charming! Now I want a pink house too! All the pastels are so sweet. The island must have been a very beautiful place to visit, indeed!

Burano seems to be a unique place. The colourful houses are a delight as well as the striped curtains, white laundry and pots of flowers. There’s so much to see in our wonderful world. I’m guess one would never, never tire of traveling Europe….

I’m so inspired by these. I was just sitting here on my balcony viewing textiles in various hues of purple and pink. These colours simply speak to me right now. Beautiful photography!
Enjoy your garden and the rest of summer … it’s a beautiful sunny day in Luxembourg ; – )

I just took a peek through your photos of Paris and Venice. I don’t ever expect to ever go there as I’m not a very good traveler but I so enjoyed your pictures and I can dream. My youngest son has been to France three times; Paris, Nantes, and Provence, and he brings back momentoes for me with lots of pictures. Thank you for sharing the magic of those faraway places.
Blessings,
Sandi

I’m from Italy and, as you can immagine, in love with the artistic and historical beauty of our far too ancient land. Venice and its little islands are very rich in charm and colour and when I first went there at the age of 11 I suddenly fell in love with them; let me say that your glamorous photos from Burano give perfectly the idea of its joyful and cheerful atmosphere .. they are truly very very beautiful !!
I’m thanking you so much for coming and visit my blog, I’m sincerely honoured of it, and I’m greeting you a lovely week end.

Hello, Georgiana
A number of years ago, I was able to spend a short time in Venice. I can see what I missed by not visiting Burano. The beautiful photos make me wonder how the decision to have such colourful houses came about . . .
St. John’s, Newfoundland is in a completely different part of the world and is know for hilly rows of brightly hued houses; perhaps they’re a warm contrast to harsh winters. I imagine you and your camera would enjoy them and the moody shoreline.

“The Giddy uplifting joy of summer” – how perfectly put!! And, indeed, these images are so festive – so bright and pretty. And perfect… who hung out all white laundry for you? How pretty is that? and I love the black striped pole that matches the shutters. It’s almost like Disney except it’s better because it’s beautifully real. And so beautifully seen. Love the shadows… sigh, yup! Very fun!
So, I’ve wanted to say this for a while but have kept getting distracted right at the moment that I was going to leave this message. But…. finally!! ;)
And, also, I’ve had fun, today, looking through past posts – from last year, actually, and I’m very excited to read your tutorial on making vintage, hand tinted images. Love yours!! and love learning more – always! Thank you for it!! =)

Oh, and another thing… we’ve had the perfect summer, too. I’ve never lived through such a perfect summer, in fact – beautiful, perfectly pretty day after another. Wow! Unfortunately, my little garden is engulfed in weeds. erp. I’ll get there… =)

As always your photos are enchanting. I like very much the stripped curtains on the doors, the faded pinks of the walls.
Thank you very much for stopping by my blog.
I wish you a nice back-to-school.

I want to live in that first pink house. I really, really do. I would wear only sherbet colors and get an Irish setter, whose coat would set off the house so beautifully.
