Happy spring! Joyeux printemps! With unseasonably warm weather in Paris, the windows have been thrown open and the marvels of March welcomed in. Sunlight dances along the balcony railings and the first leaves are furring up the bare tree branches.
Living in Paris is a dream come true but I do miss the delights of my old garden some days. So I gathered up as many potted bulbs as I could carry from the flower market and created my own fragrant tableau right on my desk. Here’s a little tour – I hope you can imagine how refreshing and calming it smells.
The simplicity and purity of spring flowers always inspires me to reflect on what is truly important. They never strive to be showy or overbearing – they only exist to exhibit the joys of renewal and life. But with toughness and determination to survive.
Wishing you many moments of spring joy ahead.
With love,
xx

Georgianna, Ah, the fragrance of Spring! Your desk garden is wonderful! I too filled my home with the lovely fragrant pink and white blooms. Hard to believe but had snow on the tulips and dogwood blossoms this year! It too had it’s own beauty but glad it didn’t last with the cold temps. My white lilac is just coming into bloom so hope it survives along with “Sensation” bush I love. My gardening chores have been delayed due to this strange bi-polar weather in my neck of the woods! Hoping to get the vegetable garden planted this week or next.
Thank you for sending the beautiful reminders of spring renewal from a distance. With all that is going on in Ukraine we need such to help us soothe our minds and hearts as we mourn in sorrow. Best wishes, Marie

Dear Marie, It seems we’ve all had strange weather recently. I do hope your lilacs will thrive in spite of it. White lilacs are so special and they were my Mother’s favorite.
It is so hard to carry on day to day, knowing what is unfolding in the Ukraine. I have quite a few Ukrainian as well as Russian friends and it is a terrible time for each of them. One dear friend has had to flee her home in Kharkiv with her daughter. They are safe but only long to return to their home and happy lives. My best, G

I could not agree more with Marie Cote’ Batson’s comments about the sadness in our hearts as we grieve everyday for the Ukrainian people. They, like the flowers of spring, demonstrate resilience and the determination to survive. With every bloom in my CA garden, I send a wish for an end to this horrible war and that the Ukrainian people can emerge from it even more resilient and rebuild, renew their country.
Thank you for all the beauty you share, Georgianna! I always come away inspired.
P.S. I just finished reading my new copy of London in Bloom. I loved it!

I so agree, as well, on your observations about the war in the Ukraine. I’m in touch with several dear friends who have been affected by the conflict and they are heartbroken. Your kind thoughts and wishes are felt and appreciated, I’m certain. My best, G
