Winter Windows, Paris

Winter Windows, Paris by Georgianna Lane

Tender, bleak January, with its still-short days and skies tinted with melancholy, can be the most challenging to enjoy of the great, grand year ahead. Your eyes can become starved for beauty and spring seems an age away. But Paris just might be more exquisite in winter than at any other time. One reason is the endless architectural delight found in observing the myriad shapes, sizes and styles of windows. So here, for your January travel dreaming and scheming, a selection of some of my favorites.

I’m sharing some of my favorite winter flowers from the Paris flower markets over at the Paris Perfect blog today, too.

À bientôt!

Merci, Alex! I think missing Paris is inevitable anytime one is away from the city. Here’s hoping you return soon!

  • So beautiful Georgianna! The ornate architecture, the soft light and pastel colours, the cat in the window and bare willowy branches. So much to love.

I feel that if I ever have opportunity to travel to Paris I may be disappointed in the reality as your images capture it’s magnificence as a dreamy silent delight.

  • I was in Paris last January staying with my eldest son and family, and I too find it an uplifting place to visit at that time of year.
I spent a lovely morning in the Russian Cemetery where I finally saw Rudolf Nureyev’s exquisite bejewelled mosaic tomb which resembles a Kilim rug.
Love the cat in photo No. 5 – he looks as if he owns all he surveys.

  • Just beautiful, Georgianna.
    The architecture is magnificent.
Just the antidote to the winter blues.

  • Beautiful architecture, dear Georgianna, and beautiful soft light! A cat in the 4th picture is no doubt enjoying the panorama! ;)
