We have been on a great adventure, an epic journey to faraway lands, to misty and mystical mountains and ancient valleys, abundant and rich with history. We have climbed to heights previously only imagined and have gazed down, exhilarated, to deep rivers flowing with the heritage of a lost civilization. We have walked in the footsteps of the explorers (not to mention my intrepid Mother!) and I have returned to my dear home weary, sunburned, bug bitten, and covered in the dust of the Incas, but holding in my heart the most precious and amazing experiences and a long-held dream come true.
I have seen so much to marvel at, I am fairly bubbling over with thoughts and ideas, images and colors and patterns, all new, all fascinating and so anxious to share! How can one encapsulate in a few photographs and inadequate words scenes of such wonder? I fear it will take me quite some time even assimilate it all for myself, let alone be able to distill and communicate it in any sensible fashion.
A MEDLEY OF SEASONS
D and I have been away nearly three weeks, and within just the last 9 days, have stood under 20,000 foot snow-capped peaks in Peru, walked on sun-washed shores and among blooming spring gardens in central Chile and I am now back to the beautiful Pacific Northwest and our sweet garden, where autumn’s touch has been so far light and delicate. (We still have roses, clematis, hollyhocks and more. And even one wayward rhodie boasting blossoms!)
What a strange and wonderful thing modern travel is – but maybe more than we can grasp? I am reeling at times from such a condensed flood of perceptions.
I will post a few images here now but so many more will follow, mostly likely on our travel blog. (D remains in Chile for another week with his parents and will bring his photos then!)

This is the ultimate – sunrise at Machu Picchu! We did it! The forecast was for rain but it was glorious and clear. We were up at 5:00, climbed to our lookout points before sunrise and were there to catch the first rays streaking across the ruins. A once-in-a-lifetime, awe-inspiring, fabulous and spine-tingling experience!

The incredible colors of Peru. I am so amazed and inspired by the beautiful colors and textures of the handicrafts, I feel like I could write a book! I can’t wait to incorporate them into some of my design work.

I feel almost as if i am standing with you looking over your shoulder at the ruins and mountains.And can feel the air upon my face.

oh georgianna it sounds like you had the most amazing trip :) how lucky you both are! and machu piccu at dawn must be a difficult experience to type about, trying to condense such a massive experience into words! i know what you mean about never being able to quite get the sense of wonder and awe out into words properly, i had it yesterday morning walking through beautiful autumn fog & can't fathom what it must have been like in such a special place like this lol. these photos are stunning, i really love your section of colourful crafts especially, and those big blue skies over maccu piccu :)
