I would never, even on the most highly imaginative day, consider myself a wildlife photographer. I don’t have the equipment, nerve or patience. But I couldn’t resist capturing these adorable raccoon babies playing near our woodpile last week. I had just parked the car and spotted them, and happened to have my camera in hand and with a long lens on it. I was quite near and they played happily, looking at me occasionally, for about 10 minutes. So, not great shots but fun anyway. I mean, we DO live on a wildlife habitat.
aww, these little guys are so cute, how did u ever get these shots?
Hi Jen! Well, I just happened to be standing right by them when they were playing and have my camera in hand. I stayed very still and they continued what they were doing until the clicking of the shutter finally started to scare them and they went off over a fence. Thanks for your visit! :)
What a nice photo's
I love the way you make the shots!!
have a verry nice week!
Yolanda
What do you mean, they are GREAT shots! You captured their little troublemaker kitten-monkey personalities perfectly. I love the way they are wrestling and hugging each other :) What a pair!
Hope you had a great weekend! Thanks for sharing these!
C
You are TOTALLY a nature photographer! That last image belongs in National Geographic!
You have a nice week, too, Yolanda!
Thank you so much, Caitlin, that's really sweet of you to say. They were in shadow so I had to crank the ISO up to 800 so the shots are too grainy for publication, but it was a treat to see them. They really made me laugh. Typical siblings! I love your description of them. Weekend was good, hope yours was, too! :) – g
Thanks, Erin! I wish it wasn't so grainy, but this was all hand held so am happy I got what I did. xo – g
Fantastic photos!! You've captured some wonderfully natural shots.
Georgianna! what wonderful, fun photos….bandits indeed! smiles.
Hi Georgianna,
I love the shots you got of them! We have a mama and babies in our barn so I give them lots of space but I will be watching for them to come out to play.
Carolyn
OMG too adorable !!!
You got some wonderful shots of the little devils. Cute for now. Valerie
How fun!! Little bandits, indeed! Playing like only siblings can! :)
Wow! Wonderful photos, they remind me of my childhood. Growing up my parents had the work of Charles Harper up on the wall, I always loved the raccoons the most… thank you for the smile.
so so cute……..great shots!
We have quite a few of them in the greenbelt right behind mt house. It's not uncommon for a whole family to come strolling through my yard.
One day there were about 6 of them all lined up and down the same tree trunk!!
You got some cute shots, hi ISO or not!
Such sweet bandits!
I am amazed at these shots! These are not only fun, but great! I sensed a wildlife photographer in the making. ;)
I am in love with that last photo….how cute are they! thanks for the kind words you left me! I really have a lot of learning to do! but it's people like yourself who keep me inspired! thanks for sharing your beautiful photos!
~Stacey
Ahhh what cuties! Excellent natural shots, Georgianna, thank you for sharing :)
WOW, what mischievous little bandits they are, I've never seen these in the wild before, what a treat to have them playing around your home. Catherine xx
Guess what was waiting for me when I finally made it home last night? You guessed it: the perfect pick-me-up after a 12 hour day. Beauty, love, thoughtfulness, and art all wrapped in one pretty package. Thank you, my friend, thank you! Sending you lots of love.
Your shots are great Georgianna! It's so hard to capture (wild) animals but you did a perfect job. Would have loved to see them myself. Have a wonderful week you too! xo
Wow, what terrific captures, g! When I was young, I always heard that raccoons are nocturnal, and don't come out during the day… obviously that is not true!
Oh, your little bandits are oh, so sweet! I'm so glad you got the shots of them to share with us. Playful little fellas!
Brenda
how cute. what a fun happenstance… we had a baby one on our porch a couple of years ago. he was so cute and so not afraid. my dog was barking at him through the door and he just sat there and looked through the window. it's fun when wildlife walks right up to your door!! :D
hugs, cindy
OMG,these little guys are so cute, how did u ever get these shots?
fantastic series…so sweet!!
raccoons are a terror in my neighborhood and i find them beyond creepy…but you've managed to capture them in an interesting/not-so-terrifying way. well done, my dear!
xo Alison
Thank you so much, everyone! Yes, the babies are quite cute and I know that the adults can be a nuisance or even dangerous in the city – I just try to remember that this is actually their territory and give them plenty of space. Oh, and don't leave out any trash or food! Appreciate your sweet comments so much! xo – g
These two playing in this photo series has me smiling sweetly from ear to ear… I'm so glad you stopped to capture it! xJanine
Georgianna, what fantastic pics! And they are adorable. I did not get to read everyone's comments so I am sure someone asked how you got so close. I am thinking you have some kind of zoom lens.
Hi Georgianna, these racoons are adorable! These pictures bring a smile to my face :)) Thank you for sharing.
You did a great job captuing their playfulness.
You must have had a great time just watching them.
Oh soooo cute! Look how they stare in the camera! And, as always, great shots!
Ciao!
You have given me a great big smile!!!! Hope you are well. Get to put my feet up and relax a bit now! Glad to come see the fun here! Blessings friend.
Hi Georgianna,
I just popped in again to thank you for your kind words again and I hope you have a great weekend!
Carolyn
Wow, these are so funny! We don't have racoons here so these photos are amazing to see. I just showed mam and dad too!
kat xx
Oh they are so cute looking, I've never seen one in real life!
