So many joyful moments on Thursday, a day that began with a shooting star sailing over our house just before dawn and ended with sail boats floating under a crescent moon.
The exquisitely fragranced Stargazers lilies opened fully, fitting for the day of clear skies and meteor showers.
As I write this from my summer “office” in the upper front garden, they are a few feet away, their sight and smell filling the already warm morning, as they did on Thursday when I positioned my chair within inches of their bed.
The daylilies are almost over, but put on a wonderful show this year:
Here are a few longer shots of the front side of the
A very uneven set of steps zigzags from the top step (seen in the foreground above) down past two small terraced lawns (out of sight on the right), to the bottom garden.
In the early evening on this sparkling clear Thursday, we (Mom, sister Leslie and brother Dave) took a picnic to the Elliot Bay Marina, setting up chairs and coolers on the sloped lawn looking west over the water toward the Olympic Mountains. I believe it’s the most beautiful of our many marinas, with the Seattle skyline to the east and the mountains and islands to the west. Many beautiful and pricey sailboats are moored here and the final regatta of the season was about to get underway, a fun and relaxed race around buoys set out in the bay.
As the sun set, the crescent moon and Venus appeared on the horizon. Mom spoke of her Mother who had majored in Astronomy and Philosophy at the nearby University of Washington, in the days when it was rare for a woman to attend college, let alone earn a Masters as she had done.
Darkness came slowly and we settled in to watch for more shooting stars.
Summer in Seattle.
Wishing you all a beautiful weekend.

I could almost smell that wonderful scent from your lilies right through the screen G. Mine were removed from the garden because the dreaded red lily beetle that can breed faster than a rabbit was able to eat them over nite.
It is so nice that with a busy life you could spend a relaxing day with your family.

Your beautiful garden still looks very green for August! And I complain about caring for my yard, you have so much more property!
Stargazers…yes what a wonderful fragrance. I have some planted right by my back patio.
This heat has been frying my hydrangeas though!

Such dreamy photos. Those rose petals are amazing. My Grandfather, Paddy, loved poetry. I sadly never met him as he was taken from us in WW II. He was a wonderful talented writer and poet and had dreamt of moving back to Ireland after the war and writing books. I now have his very special love letters he wrote to my Granny, she had held onto them all and his many poetry books. So your photos brought thoughts of him back, as I said before your photos have a way of bringing back memories! I loved those boat photos, the pastel colours are beautiful, what a lovely moment with your family to cherish. We are having a terrible summer except for the odd rare sunny day. Next week I go back to England so camera in hand I hope for some fine weather as I hope to visit some gardens. C xx
