Bonjour! Near the end of February and into early March, white magnolias begin to bloom in select places in Paris. I visited these, near the east end of Pont Neuf, late one day when the last rays of the sun highlighted the scene with gold.
While all spring blossoms have their individual charms, I find these white magnolias, with their shell pink buds, to be especially sweet, almost bashful, as their gentle petals flutter gracefully in the March winds. This variety is called White Star Magnolia or Magnolia stellata (Magnolia étoilé in French).
The rosy-gold tint from the setting sun illuminated each branch.
This image just speaks to me of the joy of spring in Paris, so I’ve released it as a print in the shop here.
Buildings across the river at the opposite end of Pont Neuf are framed by the lacy branches.
À bientôt!
xx
