There’s rosemary, that’s for remembrance;
pray, love, remember:
and there is pansies,
that’s for thoughts
– Ophelia
Hamlet Act IV, Scene v
Shakespeare’s audience would have known the double meaning. It is also referred to as “Love in Idleness” in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, as if representing a lover who has no occupation other than conjuring dreamy thoughts of his beloved.
Pansies were also called “heartsease” and thought to cure romantic suffering. But not for poor Ophelia.
I love them for their hardiness and persistence, even if I forget to water them, and their unfailingly bright, cheery faces that greet me each morning from the stone urns outside our door.
Wishing you a bright and cheery week filled with happy thoughts and love!

What a pretty post and I just love the pics of those sweet little pansies. I remember my Grand~mother always had little pansy flowers pressed inside her Bible and they had aged a soft delicate hue that was truly exquisite.

Hi Georgianna,
So many beautiful ways you have captured the beauty of a pansy! I love the stack of books especially the book with pansies on it.
Carolyn
Lovin' the pansies…one of my favs too!
Dear Georgianna, When you are an admireror of flowers it is difficult to settle on a favorite. But Pansies have to be one of my favorites, I love their charming little faces who seem to follow you wherever you are.
Your first shot is very beautiful. An image I can carry with me to brighten the rest of my day.
I did not know all that information on the pansy, thanks for sharing it. The pictures are perfect, but then you are a fabulous photographer. Take care and have a great day.
Gorgeous. I love the way you placed them against the beautifully colored books. And you know I love the Shakespeare references. His world was so full of flowers and their meanings.
Poor Ophelia.

Dear Georgianna, I have received back today an email I sent you on Sunday, it failed to get to you, it was about the calendar. Do you know if you have some problems getting the emails??
I don´t have words to express how I love your photography!!!!!
cariños,

All beautiful pictures!! I could not choose a favorite out of them. I love the faces of pansies, they always bring a smile to my face when I see them.
Your roses in your previous post were gorgeous as well. The calender is wonderful.
oh! i love your blog! please tell me what books are they? i'd like one for me to buy!!!do you sell them?
Gorgeous. I so love the colours of those flowers!
Our pansies have been sent to the compost heap. Your photos are gorgeous.
Pansies have never had a finer tribute than your post today G. You are so creative.
I was trying to see what those books were myself, they're colourful and interesting looking.
Judith
Pansies remind me of impish little fairy faces. It's still too hot for them here. I can't wait to have them waiting for me in the garden. Gorgeous photos, as always!
Brenda
beautiful, the first shot is divine.
Many, many thanks, my friends. I'm glad you like pansies, too!
The little books are Punch Studio Collage Tiny Books. I got them at a local gift store but you can get them online at http://www.touchofeurope.net and I'm sure other online stores. I was going to buy one or two, but they are so pretty I couldn't choose just two! These are the some of the props I bought over the holiday weekend. :)
xo
p. s. the little books are blank inside, with decorated journal pages.
Really beautiful! I love the layout with the books and the meaning behind pansies. You have such talent!
It's always a serendipity when you can enjoy such beauty and learn something at the same time. These bright cheery pansies are de-light-ful. I knew they came from the French word pens ées but did not know why they were named so. As always, thanks for a dose of morning beauty!

I love pansies! I have many that are growing in the front garden of my north facing house where they thrive. Some if them seeding down and coming back from last year.
I think it's unfair that Pansy is know as someone who is a wimp!
They are just too cute!!!
I'm loving all of these photos Georgianna. The colours are so rich and beautiful…
I hope you're having a great week! Take care. Moa xo

PS–sorry if this is appearing twice–I seem to have problem w/Internet ?
Oohhh I have to check the calendar! These are so plummy and lush looking pansies. I came to visit because I just used your work in a treasury- I sent you a message on Etsy. Enjoy your weekend!!
Mary
Georgianna, your photos took my breath right out of me when they came up on my screen. I know of no one else who shows as much beauty as you do.
I love pansies. Aren't they the sweetest flowers for Fall? So forgiving and so pretty.
Thank you for making my day!!!
hugs
How very sweet those pictures and pansies are. Here in Sweden we only have pansies during the spring – despite their hardiness. I wish I could have them now too. Beautiful fall mood and colours in the post. Hope you've had a great week. I've been so busy lately but I'm here to catch up now. Have a wonderful weekend! xo
Georgianna, I am coming to you from Claudia at Mockingbird Hill and I am so glad that I am here! I have a weakness for pansies, and your photography is inspiring. I am your newest follower and will be back to visit your older posts. Linda
How lovely to see their little faces! My dad used to grow these in his garden, they have a special place in my heart for their velvety petals, varied colours and cheerful display :)
Such lovely images. My mother loved pansies. And I'm a bit late too, LOL
