I am resisting the inevitable entrance of autumn, although shops and many blogs and the weather seem to have nothing else on their minds.
For me, summer doesn’t end until the equinox, if then. I will, stubbornly at times, cajole and caress the last vestiges of light and warmth from the days.
My current accomplices in creating this alternate reality are the abundant plants in the garden just entering their second flowering. Roses, pansies, spirea, nepeta (catmint), some hydrangeas and others are responding to their August pruning with new bursts of blooms.
Last year the roses bloomed into November and I am cheering them on from the sidelines to do so again.
Yesterday I gathered some of the bounty for an impromptu still life.
Rosa ‘Lady Emma Hamilton’ (David Austin) and Rosa ‘Graham Thomas’ with Goldflame Spirea
Rosa ‘A Shropshire Lad’ (David Austin) and Goldflame Spirea
All of the above plus Rosa ‘Gentle Hermione’ and Rosa ‘The Shepherdess’ (David Austins) and one more of ‘Graham Thomas’.
The individual 5″x7″ pages are great on a magnetic memo board or bulletin board, or framed in a stand.
I designed each month to have its own identity, with fun little details – butterflies, keys, birds and nests.
G, your garden and calendar are both a thing of beauty!!!
I especially like the Rosa 'A Shropshire Lad' (David Austin). It looks like one I have, but mine has another name(which escapes me at the moment). The colors are gorgeous, and it's the most luscious smelling rose ever!!
Dearest g, these photos are soo magical! I can't take my eyes off them. :) Such a lovely idea to use these gorgeous photos and make them into a calender! Beautiful! Have a lovely merry happy weekend and love to you!
These are so beautiful, I can almost smell their delicate blooms. And your calendar is rose-licious! All those details, all the work, how do you do it Georgianna:) x
So gorgeous, I love the different vases.
you are so right, summer is not over yet ! here it is so hot and sunny ! but the leaves are turning amber brown and cracking under our feet … in France, we call it "l'arrière saison" and "l'été indien". I shall be celebrating equinoxe with you :) Although I am longing for fresher air, I would love to smell those gorgeous roses
Dear Georgianna, This may be my favorite post, or have I said this before? You have expressed my feelings precisely, I'm not ready for Summer to leave.
I LOVE your calender. Please save one for me. I will order it as soon as I return from Europe, early October. And thank you for leaving your sweet comments.
How absolutely beautiful.
Carol
a lovely calendar, indeedy! i especially love June's image…it looks like a beautiful oil painting. December's arch of roses just draws me in. November's twirling center has me swirling and well, i just love them all. we still have lots of summer left here too…you always inspire me.
I'm with you, Georgianna – I can't acknowledge the end of summer until the 'official' start of autumn. Your roses are beautiful.

G I love that you still have divine blooms to share with us, I will soak up what lovely summer you have left here as autumn trundles in quickly over Dublin with lashings of rain and leaves being whipped around in the wind! Summer is so short here but it's such a pleasure to see your images still brimming with colour and light xxx
It's so nice to see your beautiful second bloomings! I'm loving all the different vases and you know how much I love your roses! :)
Your calendar is the prettiest I've ever seen! Such beautiful detail.
Have a lovely weekend, G.!
xo,
Lynda
I'm squeezing all I can out of the flowers of summer in reblooming, as well as looking toward fall. (We get awfully hot and humid here!) Your roses are magnificent. And I love the little objects/bottles you placed some of them in. Artwork all its own with the addition of the cut flowers!
Brenda

I also love all your great vases….so pretty with those amazing huge roses……sigh…..so beautiful!
I absolutely love that you and your beautiful garden are still in summer-mode…so please, please, please continue to share your most gorgeous blooms until the very end. I for one will welcome each and every post:)

Your garden is just beautiful, and I love your calendar. I love fall but do miss the flowers so.
Yay, oh yay! My sweet friend G every single day! I'm off to Etsy now.
I meant to tell you – I'm in love with that memo board you posted your calendar on. Can you tell me about it?
Wow, thank you so much, dear friends! I will definitely keep posting summer images as long as I can get them, or maybe even use some of last year's, ha ha!
Relyn, I'll email you separately but in case anyone else is interested, the memo board is by artist Tim Coffey, manufactured by Creative Co-op. I got it at our local nursery. It was the only one there but I think you could find it online.

Oh thank goodness someone who agrees with me that it is not autumn yet :)
Hi Georgianna,
Wow! Somehow I didn't see on the dashboard that you had posted so I missed your last few posts so what a treat for me tonight to see three absolutely beautiful posts.
I smiled about your hanging on to summer because that was exactly how I felt until I was enjoying the Fall Victoria mag and suddenly I was more into it.Guess I am easily influenced!
Your roses and their pretty containers are all beautiful. your calender is amazing (I see 3 of the lovely prints I got are on it).
I am happy you had some quiet time at the beach but still got some beautiful shots to share.
I also love the chandeler photo with the pretty blue flowers and the hydrangeas looking like butterflies! I guess I could have shortened this for you by saying I love it all!!!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
Carolyn
Hi Georgianna, Your post gave a little chuckle. You will cone into fall kicking a screaming not yet. You go girl. I hope you enjoy your weekend. Of course the pictures are fabulous. Hugs:)

Dear G,
maybe summer is not over till the last rose blooms.
That happened for us this week.
I love your collections and still lifes, you do them so well.
You are the Roses Queen!
Pansies are out here too. I took a few in a glass jar.
Lotsa love

I'm hanging on to summer as long as I can as well, G! The leaves will change next week, but hopefully the warm weather will stay around just a little bit longer. :)

Good heavens G – I've missed a few of your posts. I see Carolyn had the same problem as me -Blogger did not update on my dashboard either.
Well, I've read everything up to date now and must say I love savouring summer with your roses and flowers. I especially like the vase that the 'Shropshire Lad' is in – very nice.
Judith

Beautiful, beautiful calendar! I love it!
Oh wow Georgianna your calender looks so beautiful! :) Gorgeous! I'm happy to hear that your not planning to share fall shots yet and that your roses will flower for many more weeks. Here fall is here and I'm just waiting (and hoping it will take many more days) for the first frost to come… :)
Over to check your shop out! xo
Since I'm a fairly new follower of this breathtaking, beautiful blog, I'm wondering how I got through my days without seeing the beauty on Georgianna Lane. Truly a treasure!
