Dusk and dawn.
A fair amount of time had passed since either of us had visited the city, when, somewhat out of the blue, an opportunity for a short trip presented itself. With a small handful of sunrises and sunsets ahead of us, and graced with perfect weather, we set about capturing the grand and iconic scenes, photographed countless times yet perpetually in demand by our agencies and clients. Great cities change on daily basis, skylines morph and fresh images are always desired.
Taxis, plentiful and swift, were our chariots, zipping us across the urban landscape on early mornings and mauve tinted evenings. I lost count of how many wild, dawn-and-dusk rides we took, chasing the light from Central Park to Soho, from 42nd Street to Brooklyn, calculating how to be at three locations at once – balancing a tripod on the bouncing Brooklyn Bridge in the still-dark morning, catching the first rays of sun across Central Park or the dawn illuminating Bow Bridge, reflected in the still waters beneath it. After some years, we are pretty adept at these maneuvers but they still get the heart racing. Very healthy for the circulation, no doubt. :)
In spite of the early mornings, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute. New York welcomed us and impressed us with friendliness, cleanliness and a feeling of safety not always experienced on previous visits. I’m so glad we got reacquainted! And of course there was an abundance of pizza, cheesecake and coffee to soothe the weary soul. :)
Thank you so much for visiting! Much more New York to come. We hope you are all well and will enjoy coming along for the ride!
love,
G (and D)

I have seen pictures of New York on blogs often but these pictures are so you again, amazingly beautiful, Georgianna all over. NY must be such an interesting city to ‘experience’. Love the effect in your first picture, as if the buildings were miniatures.
So you can see the Empire State building from Rockefeller center, and you can get all the way up in Rockefeller center, things I didn’t know yet. I have by now so many things I’d want to do and see if ever I go to NY sometime, I think I could spend a whole month there with it all, and then more even.

These photos are all stunning G but my favourite is the first one. Very nice perspectives of the Empire State Building with the bridge.

You capture the light so beautifully! I’d love to be a fly on the tripod that follows you around:-))

I’ve never been to New York. I’ve only seen pictures, and I must say these are some of the most beautiful photos I’ve seen. When I lived in Las Vegas we would occasionally get these “pinkish” sunsets and I would have to run outside with my camera to try and capture it. I always wanted to catch the LV strip at that time, when the lights just started coming on, but never did. (probably because the only times I was ever on the strip at those dusk and dawn times was in my younger years! Lol) Your photos make me want to visit New York!
Natasha says
Oh Georgianna, these are so, so beautiful! They are some of the best images of NYC that I have seen. All that rushing about was most definitely worth it! xox

These are so beautiful Georgianna – the morning light is just perfect! I might need to get up early when I’m there. Love the ones from Rockefeller centre and Brooklyn. Two of my favourite spots in the city. I was there last time in Nyc and I’m definitely going there again. :) Have a lovely day! xo

There has been many photos posted about New York City that have been in black and white or brilliantly lit but I found the soft tones of yours so pleasing to the eye. I really liked that you highlighted your subject in focus and then the rest just slightly out. Wonderful. Valerie

Hi G,
It’s been years since I’ve been to NY…thanks for taking me back :) You came away with some spectacular images. My favorite is the Empire State Building through the Manhattan Bridge – unique and artistic!
A number of these appear to be Lensbaby shots. Am I correct? The miniaturization and focus is perfect for NY city. Which optic did you use – Edge 80?
Looking forward to more of NY :)
Have a great weekend,
xx A

How wonderful being able to see beyond so cutting-edge buildings, beyond the hectic life of New York, the calm and serenity that always the colors of the sunrise and the sunset, that both don’t forget to wrap even the skyscrapers, give us .. I’ve never been to New York, but I assure you that the temptation, now that I’ve seen these your great photos is even stronger!
A truly spectacular work, as always, congratulations Georgianna !!
Have a lovely weekend ♥

I love the warm of these pictures, nothing to do with the cold and grey that we usually see in city buildings.

New York is the city of my youthful dreaming. I had planned and fully intended to move their after college and break into the advertising business. Then, I met Jeffrey, my love. I chose a country boy and a rural life over the bright lights. I have never regretted that choice, but OH, I loved seeing New York again through your eyes.
Carolyn says
Dear Georgianna,
You have captured the beauty of New York so perfectly.
Love how romantic and dreamy everything looks.
Thanks for your email, I did try writing back and sent it a few times but it said it could not be delivered, sorry.
Happy weekend
hugs

Oh, how gorgeous – you have managed to show NY in such a romantic light. Not often you see that – maybe in some Woody Allen movies. I especially love the reflection of the San Remo building in the water. I have visited a family friend who lives on the 16th floor and the view over Central Park is spectacular.
Your visit sounds like a lot of work but also like a lot of fun and it will have been worth it in the end – getting all those beautiful images.
Wishing you a great week!
xoxo Ingrid

Georgianna, your photos are so amazing! New York should be sending you a letter of gratitude…..

It’s safe to say that NYC has been one of the most photographed cities of all time, and as such fresh views and/or perspectives of it can be, understandably, tricky to come by at times. You’ve knocked things out of the ballpark here, let me tell you. These photos are at once expansive and intimate. They capture both the gritty, powerful soul and soft, ageless beauty of the city that never sleeps so profoundly well. I am smitten and have never longed more to visit the Big Apple myself as I do when viewing them.
♥ Jessica

NYC is top on my list of favorite cities in the world, I lived there for 8 years and still love and miss the city, I love how you captured this city with such great colors, wonderful wonderful shots there.
Thanks for your comment for my posts, I tried to leave comment here a few times but it just won’t let me, well, sometimes they just do that to us!?
We decided not to go to Paris next month, I am sad and disappointed at the same time, I’ve been to Paris twice, so it doesn’t hurt much if I don’t go this time, it hurts because I disappointed my daughter, we promised her that we will visit her when she is there for her abroad study, but unfortunately, we can’t this time.
I know you will bring back lots of beautiful photos from Prague, this is another city that I love dearly, so romantic and magical, just like NYC!
Linneas Atelje Photography says
Oh so beautiful, I’ve seen many photos from that city, but none so beautiful as these. So well captured!!

Hi G! This is my third time coming by to look at these! They are some of the most stunning and beautiful images I have seen of this amazing city. I can only imagine what a thrill it must have been for you and David.
It’s been many years since I have visited NYC, but traveled there many times with my father’s sister in the 60’s, 70’s, 80’s. Their father, my grandfather, moved the family there in the 1930’s to find employment during the Great Depression. She loved NY and enjoyed growing up there and knew her way around well. Loved the plays and music and shopping of course! Lots of great memories for me…
I look forward to more of NYC from you dear G… hope you all are doing well yourselves.
*Thanks too for visiting my website and for leaving such a sweet and kind comment. :)
